You’ll discover the wonders of iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, with its terraced gardens, world-renowned frescoes and mirror wall. You'll also get to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa on a guided sightseeing tour. The next morning, visit the mystical Dambulla Cave Temple – a labyrinthine complex of five caves covered in colourful rock paintings – and a Matale spice garden, before arriving at the UNESCO World Heritage City of Kandy in central Sri Lanka, famed for its sacred Buddhist sites. From giant spectacles to tiny ones, you'll hit Temple of the Tooth next – home to a tooth relic that belonged to Buddha himself.

Next, visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden, before heading to Peradeniya railway station to hitch a scenic train ride to the capital of Sri Lanka’s tea country, Nuwara Eliya, nicknamed ‘Little England’; take in scenic countryside views as the train snakes its way through the mountains. The next day, head towards Horton Plains National Park en route to Udawalawe. Here, you’ll enjoy an exciting game drive at Udawalawe National Park, home to scenic landscapes and rare wildlife – your unforgettable chance to spot elephants, leopards, sloth bears, water buffalo, wild boar and much more.

Your final five nights will be spent in the calming cradle of Sri Lanka's south coast, staying in Weligama. Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Colombo Airport and proceed to Dambulla. Check into Amaya Lake.
Day 2: After breakfast, head to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Opt to enjoy a game drive at Minnieriya National Park before spending a further night at Amaya Lake.
Day 3: Enjoy breakfast before making tracks to Kandy. En route, you’ll visit Dambulla Cave Temple and a Matale spice garden. Check into Amaya Hills hotel before heading to the Temple of the Tooth.
Day 4: After lunch, opt to visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden before embarking on a sightseeing tour of Kandy. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, with one more night at Amaya Hills.
Day 5: Then, head to Peradeniya train station to catch your scenic train to Nanu Oya. Transfer to The Blackpool Hotel to check in.
Day 6: Day Opt to visit Horton Plains National Park, before journeying on to Weligama. Check into Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa.
Day 7-10: Spend the next few nights relaxing and exploring at your leisure.
Day 11: Head to Colombo Airport to catch your flight back to the UK.

Amaya Lake, Dambulla (two nights)

You can truly unwind at Amaya Laka’s serene waterside location, set on the banks of Kandalama Lake.
