A once-in-a-lifetime tour of culture-rich Peru from the mysteries of the Incas to historic city stays, with tours to Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu - includes excursions, all travel and optional extras

Mystical Peru, especially the lost world of the Incas, is the stuff of legends. Discover some of its secrets on this bucket-list adventure, taking in colonial Lima, the mysterious Nazca lines, magical Lake Titicaca, ancient Inca capital Cusco, world-renowned Machu Picchu and more.

Begin in Peru’s dizzying capital Lima with a two-night stay at Hotel José Antonio. Get your bearings with an optional tour, including panoramic views over Huaca Huallamarca, Sant Domingo Convent and Plaza Mayor. Travel south to the port town of Paracas for an overnight stay at La Hacienda Bahia, from where you’ll embark on a fascinating boat safari to the tranquil Ballestas Islands – home to Humboldt penguins, sea lions and a multitude of marine birds.

It’s on to Nazca next for a night at Casa Andina, Nazca. From here you can opt for the incredible opportunity of taking a flight over the legendary Nazca lines – mysterious giant images drawn in the landscape. Move on to UNESCO World Heritage site and colonial gem Arequipa for a night at Casa Andina, Arequipa. Here you can opt for a Miraflores and San Isidro city tour taking in the districts of St Lazarus and Yanahuara, Santa Catarina Convent and the Basilica Cathedral.

Transfer to the dramatic Colca Valley, where you’ll visit Cruz del Condor, the best viewpoint from which to watch the famous giant Andean condor take to the skies. Stay overnight at Aranwa Pueblito Encantado del Colca. Move on to Puno beside magical Lake Titicaca for two nights at Sonesta Posadas del Inca Lake Titicaca. Take an excursion to intriguing Taquile and the floating Uros islands, set in the midst of the world’s highest lake.

It’s onwards and upwards to Cusco next, driving through some fabulous scenery. Visit Andahuaylas church, the Racqui ruins and discover La Raya, the highway’s highest point with amazing views. Arrive in Cusco for an overnight stay at Eco Inn. The next day, board the train to Aguas Calientes from where you’ll head to Machu Picchu – surely the highlight of your trip. This lost city of the Inca (a UNESCO World Heritage site and the seventh wonder of the world) has to be seen to be believed. Spend the night in Aguas Calientes at El Mapi de Inkaterra. Return to Cusco for another three nights at Eco Inn. The next day you can opt for a day’s excursion taking in Chinchero, textile centre Urpi and Ollantaytambo fort. Your final day in Cusco is at your leisure before you return to the UK
