Discover Poland's pivotal cities from superbly central hotels - includes flights, intercity train travel, optional tours and Christmas availability

Discover the prizes of Poland over this fascinating four- or six-night break with optional tours, which delves into the country’s solemn past and thriving culture. You’ll fly into Krakow, where you'll make your own way to the hip Metropolis Design Hotel. Then, you’ll travel by train to the country’s vibrant capital, Warsaw, for a stay at the central Leonardo Royal Hotel Warsaw before flying back to the UK. Between these two city stays, you've the option to sandwich two nights in on-the-pulse Wroclaw too, with a stay at the eco-friendly Scandic Wroclaw.

Arriving in southern Poland, you can explore Krakow’s well-preserved medieval core and Jewish quarter. Its old town – ringed by Planty Park and remnants of the city’s medieval walls – is centred on the vast Rynek Glowny, Europe’s largest market square that buzzes with hundreds of restaurants, bars and clubs come sundown. In the former Jewish quarter, remnants of synagogues reflect the tragedy of the 20th Century, while lively squares and backstreets look to the future. Whilst here, you'll have the chance to visit the haunting Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp with a seven-hour tour that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Auschwitz Memorial Museum. You’ll learn about the origins of the camp, its history and the everyday life of its prisoners.

Then, you've the option to spend two nights in Wroclaw - one of Poland's most vibrant cities. It's known as the 'Venice of Poland' owing to its lacework of waterways, 12 islands, 130 bridges and attractive architecture. The Gothic spires of Cathedral Island are a must-see, whilst the lively market square exudes plenty of festive ambience over the Christmas Market season. Your eco-friendly hotel, Scandic Wroclaw, sits just a 10-minute walk from the Old Town, and provides modern digs and up-to-date amenities for a comfy stay.

From either Krakow or Wroclaw (depending on which offer you choose), you'll enjoy a scenic train journey to Warsaw for a stay at the elegant Leonardo Royal Hotel, in one of the capital’s tallest buildings. A three-hour morning tour offers a concise round-up of the must-see sights, taking in the widely varied architecture that reflects the city’s long and turbulent history. From Lazienki Park and Theatre Square, past Belvedere Palace and the Presidential Palace, you’ll take in Gothic churches and neoclassical palaces to Soviet-era blocks and modern skyscrapers. Fascinating museums interpret Warsaw’s complex story, from uplifting Chopin music to the tragedy of the Jewish ghetto.

Good to know

Guests travelling during the festive season can enjoy Christmas market displays in both cities, traditionally from the last week of November through to the first week of January.
